October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Here in Alaska, breast cancer impacts all of us – our families, our friends, our coworkers, and ourselves. One in eight femalebodied people are diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. We know early detection saves lives. For KBFPC clients, that includes annual exams, breast cancer screenings and mammogram referrals, genetic testing, and diagnostic services – all at low or no cost for clients who qualify. As a trusted community healthcare partner, and with your help, KBFPC provides evidence-based, empowering reproductive health care regardless of a person’s insurance status or ability to pay.

Each October, our Board of Directors leads a community Breast Cancer Awareness and fundraising campaign, requesting donations from local businesses and KBFPC supporters to display a sponsored pink flag on their building during the month. The funds raised help our not-for-profit clinic continue providing affordable, exceptional sexual and reproductive health care on the Kenai Peninsula.

Early detection saves lives.

The pink flags seen around the Homer area in October are a reminder of the importance of breast cancer prevention and early detection, and encouragement to schedule your Annual Wellness Visit and ask your provider if you’re up to date on recommended cancer screenings. Call KBFPC at 907-235-3436 to schedule.

Your donation makes a difference.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is right around the corner! Will you support access to essential breast cancer screening and help raise awareness in our community? Your tax-deductible donation of $150 or more supports access to this critical care now and into the future. With your donation, we provide a pink flag to fly outside your business or home for the month. Be part of the October Pink Flag tradition and show how much our community cares!

To request a sponsored flag: please complete this form and contact Claudia Haines at 907-235-3436 x100.

To make your donation, please pay online at the link above, bring cash or check to the clinic during business hours, or mail a check to 3959 Ben Walters Lane, Homer AK 99603. Additional donations always welcome!

KBFPC’s Breast Cancer Awareness efforts are also supported in part by the Alaska Run for Women, which contributes to our community outreach and education efforts, and the Alaska Title X and Breast + Cervical (AK B+C) Screening Assistance programs, which help income-eligible clients receive high-quality screening care at low or no cost.
