Melon Purcell
Secretary, serving on the Board since 1986
(she/her)

Melon became interested in family planning right out of college. As a volunteer with Planned Parenthood in a small rural New York college town, she finally got to ask, and later answer for others, all the questions that she could not ask at home. It felt good to finally understand her body.
Many years later after moving back to Homer, Melon was introduced to KBFPC by a good friend. She started on the Board back in 1987 and has served ever since. Dedicated to KBFPC’s mission she has found her work on the board to be extremely rewarding. Melon is a retired teacher still substituting at McNeil Canyon School. She is the District Commission for the Kachemak Pony Club and an officer of the Alaska Region Pony Club. When not coaching and riding horses, she can be found gardening, dog walking with friends and dogs, and encouraging her airplane-building husband.
