Friends,

I love this time of year. The days are getting longer, there is so much hustle and bustle in preparation for the summer season, and the air smells of possibility. That’s what the new growth on plants and trees reminds me of anyways.

This month has meant a lot of hustle and bustle for KBFPC’s clinic, outreach, and education programs also. The Education Team wrapped up another school year of facilitating health education on the Peninsula with two-day visits to both Susan B English School in Seldovia (middle and high school students) and Fireweed Academy (5th and 6th graders). These visits celebrate the expansion of KBFPC’s education program over the past year which includes the use of multiple health curriculums that fit the age and goals of each partner school; sexual health education for college aged students and ‘new adults’; Birds, Bees, and Beyond, a series of guided discussions for parents and caregivers of teens; out of school sexual health education at KBFPC; the inclusion of Tyler, our Lead Educator, on the Alaska Children’s Trust’s new statewide Teen Dating Violence Committee; and the Roundtables, a monthly discussion style program that focused on important teen wellness topics including communication and healthy relationships.

All of us at KBFPC want to say a big thank you and congratulations to Mika and Esme, KBFPC Peer Educators, who were part of this year’s expansion and just graduated from Flex High School. They are both moving on to their next big adventures.
