There are many ways to think about and approach reproductive health, after all it touches every facet of our lives! While the clinic connects folks to medical care and education, we’re super happy to have partners on the Kenai Peninsula at the Peninsula Period Network who focus on period poverty by bringing menstrual supplies to all bathrooms in our local schools, ensuring all KPBSD students don’t have to experience the terror of being caught without the right gear.
If you haven’t heard the term “period poverty” before, it refers to when someone does not have consistent access to menstrual supplies, sanitation stations, or the education to manage their menstrual health. Without access to these things people are forced to use unsafe alternatives like rags, toilet paper, or old clothes which can lead to significant school absenteeism, immense emotional distress, and increased risks of infections like Urinary Track Infections (UTIs).
Reproductive healthcare goes beyond providing medical services – it is also access to medically accurate health information from trusted and compassionate sources, supplies to care for one’s body like menstrual products, prenatal and postpartum supplies and birth control, and access to a safe, clean, and supportive environment.
At KBFPC we’re grateful to have great partners like the Peninsula Period Network in this work!
Honoring the Life of Mary Rosanne Katzke
Mary Rosanne Katzke passed on Jan. 13, 2026, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
We at KBFPC are grateful for Mary’s longstanding contributions to women’s health and cancer prevention, awareness, and support across the state! Her film, photography, advocacy, and storytelling projects gave voice to Alaskan women’s health concerns and will have an ongoing impact on our communities.
A Celebration of Life is being held at 820 Soundview Avenue in Homer, Alaska, on May 30, 2026, from 1-4 p.m. Bench dedication at Bishop’s Beach at 4:30 p.m.
Parent Corner
There is a lot of vaccine talk in the news these days, and while all vaccines are important, there is only one that prevents cancer! Thanks to the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccine, children can be protected now from developing 6 different types of HPV-related cancers in the future. Recommended starting at ages 9-12 with two doses. Learn more from the American Association of Pediatrics or schedule an appointment with your child’s healthcare provider.

FREE Community Screening: The [M] Factor
Join us at the Porcupine Theater for a FREE Screening on Wednesday, March 18 at 6pm of “The [M] Factor: Shredding the Silence on Menopause”
Following the film KBFPC Providers will host a Q&A to dive deeper into the movie and all things menopause.
Healthy Relationships Workshops
Don’t miss the last opportunity of the school year for 12-14 year old teens to gain foundational healthy relationships knowledge!
This FREE Saturday workshop runs from 10:00 – 3:30 PM on March 21. The program uses the district-approved health curriculum. Participants will receive a gift card and a goodie bag!

Life Lab – New!
Would your kiddo benefit from learning about puberty, their emotions, and bullying in a safe learning environment outside of home?
KBFPC Teen Health launched a FREE after school offering for 5 & 6 graders. Wednesdays from 3:00 – 5:00 PM
Exploring these topics in early puberty helps students better care for themselves, their health, and their community! Program runs February – April, drop-ins welcome.
Plus there will be snacks!
Birds, Bees, and Beyond
Join KBFPC Teen Health for “Birds, Bees, & Beyond,” an event designed to support parents/caregivers and connect them with others in their community.
Our next meetup is on Monday, March 16 from 5:30 – 6:30pm in person at the Kachemak Bay Campus or via Zoom
This month we’ll dive into a workbook for youth ages 7-12 that talks all about body literacy. Learn about this resource and how to use it as a conversation tool in your home. Plus, attendees will receive a free copy!
