Like you, we are devastated by the acts of violence at KBFPC and at the Kachemak Bay Recovery Coalition. We are making sure KBFPC’s staff members and volunteers are well-cared for during this traumatic time, while continuing to prioritize providing essential reproductive health services to Kenai Peninsula communities.

The staff and Board of Directors at KBFPC are so appreciative of the overwhelming community support this week. Your encouragement and engagement mean so much to us. As we take care of our staff and clients, we also want to extend to you transparency about what we know so far.
After Monday’s two shooting incidents at KBFPC, a suspect has been arrested and a pre-trial is set for next week. The person in custody was one of KBFPC’s contractors up until mid-September when they quit providing services, expressing their adamant opposition to the healthcare we have provided for over 40 years. Staff are cooperating with the Homer Police Department’s ongoing investigation and have met with members of the HPD on multiple occasions to discuss updates and ways to enhance agency security to protect staff and clients. We will continue to share updates when available.
We have been bracing ourselves for potential violence targeting the agency’s reproductive health services for some time. Two shooting incidents on one day was shocking.
Regardless of these attacks, we are steadfast. KBFPC will continue to provide comprehensive reproductive health services – including pregnancy testing and options counseling, sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing and treatment, birth control counseling and supplies, gender-affirming care, breast and cervical cancer screenings, and more – because we support each person’s ability to survive and thrive, as well as the health and well-being of our communities as a whole.
