Happy HPV Vaccine Awareness month! First approved by the FDA in the early 2000s, the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine has helped millions of people protect themselves(opens in new tab) from six different types of cancer caused by HPV, including cancer of the cervix, vagina, vulva, penis, anus ,and throat.
KBFPC is excited to support HPV screening and prevention in a variety of ways. This summer we launched our HPV vaccine program, specifically providing access to this expensive vaccine to 18 – 26-year-olds who may have missed it during the recommend childhood timeframe. We’re able to offer this service on our sliding fee scale, meaning more people can afford to receive this important care!
In addition to our long-standing cervical cancer screening services, the clinic now offers self-swabbing for HPV. Historically, this testing has always been done by a provider during a pelvic exam, but thanks to new guidelines(opens in new tab), some clients may be eligible to collect their own HPV sample for testing through a self-swab in the clinic. We’re proud to offer more options in reproductive health care – at KBFPC we’re all about autonomy and choice!
Parent Corner
As summer wraps up and the school year begins, we’ll all likely be watching a bit more TV. There are new releases to catch up on and quieter evenings in store. This fall, try utilizing TV time as a way to start the conversation about romantic relationships, body image, or peer pressure with your teen!

Birds, Bees, and Beyond
Join us for our first parent/caregiver gathering of the school year!
Tuesday, September 8 from 5:30-6:30 pm at the Homer Public Library or via Zoom (email us for the link)
This monthly meetup is a chance for parents to connect with each other, share successes & challenges, and learn about a health topic or resource.
Our first gathering will focus on strategies for answering tricky questions.
Mobile Mammograms
The Providence Mobile Mammogram Truck is almost here! They will be in the clinic parking lot on Tuesday and Wednesday September 1st and 2nd.
