Reasonably-timed sunsets are returning and the cranes in the yard are preparing to form their V’s in the sky and fly south. All of this reminds us that fall is coming, the chaos of summer is wrapping up, and it’s time to start thinking about all of the responsibilities we’ve put off while focusing on summer fun.
At KBFPC, last month checked all the boxes. The clinic hosted our visiting surgical provider for quarterly vasectomy procedures, expanding financially accessible birth control options for those who choose vasectomy as their preferred method. Our Outreach team and dedicated volunteers at Salmonfest briefed people from across the state on the current landscape of reproductive health while also creating artsy buttons. On the Education side, teens teased apart what makes a healthy relationship during a workshop in our learning space. And finally, by revisiting a classic coming-of-age story with a free screening of “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.” we collectively cringed and laughed at the Porcupine Theater. Thank you to all who joined us in the community this summer – we truly enjoyed connecting with you!
Fall comes with many competing priorities, but we hope you’ll take the time to focus on your health. See below for a couple of opportunities to do so, including a two-day visit from the Providence Imaging Mobile Mammogram Bus. At last year’s event, 19 people got their mammogram – If you were one of them, here is your annual reminder to schedule your mammogram appointment. If you missed the opportunity last time, now is your chance! This event has expanded to offer appointments for nearly 40 people to receive a potentially lifesaving screening mammogram. The Kenai Peninsula has the second-lowest mammogram screening rate in the state, with only 49% of women aged 40+ reported screening in the last two years. Let’s work together to change this by caring for ourselves and others. Encourage every women you know age 40 and up to get their mammogram this fall – see below for more details.

Alaska Breast & Cervical Funding Reinstated
For those of you who missed it, on July 3rd, providers across the state received the wonderful news that the Alaska Breast & Cervical Screening Assistance Program finally received its Notice of Award from the CDC for the 2025-26 fiscal year. With this new information the program restarted covering services immediately. Let’s take this good news as a reminder to encourage our friends and family to schedule their annual wellness visit and mammogram!

Join KBFPC’s Board of Directors and agency staff for our Annual Meeting on Tuesday, August 19th from 5:30-6pm. We’ll gather at the admin building at 3957 Nielsen Circle.
The meeting will share agency updates, and board members will make their annual service commitments and elect Officers.
