Navigating the Marketplace at HealthCare.gov can be confusing at best and overwhelming at worst. Assistance from the Certified Application Counselors at KBFPC will help you to find your way through a complex system. The peace of mind that comes from having the most affordable possible coverage that fits you and your families needs can be worth all of the effort.

“I came in for a refill on my birth control, and walked out with health insurance for much less than I thought it would cost! Thank you so much!!!”

There are a few deadlines to be aware of, but don’t worry, you still have time! The ‘Open Enrollment Period’ for 2015 goes through February 15, 2015. If you enroll by February 15 your coverage will start March 1st, 2015.

Obtaining coverage by March 1st will protect you from the tax penalties of not having ‘minimum essential coverage’. Certain circumstances also make you eligible for a Special Enrollment Period.

Depending on your income, you are likely to find that you are eligible for ‘tax credits’ that qualify you for lower premiums and possibly lower out-of-pocket costs on Marketplace insurance.  There are also free preventative care benefits which can make routine care more simple.

Plans that are Health Savings Account (HSA) compatible plans have a high deductible for which qualifying medical expenses can be paid out of a medical savings account (HSA). Contributions to an HSA are tax free at the time of deposit.

Don’t be confused about in-network and out-of-network providers, in Alaska (outside of Anchorage) all qualified providers are ‘in-network’ so you will not be limiting your healthcare options by choosing a marketplace insurance plan.

Don’t worry if this information feels like too much to follow- there are five Certified Application Counselors at Kachemak Bay Family Planning Clinic that can walk you (okay, hold your hand through) the entire process.  These well trained ladies know the ins and outs and common glitches of the system that make it often difficult to navigate. Simply call (907) 235-3436 to make an appointment Monday-Friday 9 am – 5 pm.

“I’m not sure why this process felt more private in some ways than my annual women’s exam, but once I decided to get help with the process of applying for health coverage I couldn’t have been more pleased with the health and support of the application counselors at KBFPC. I would love to see all of my friends get the coverage that could make their preventative care easier!”
